José/Zambi, Dumi, and Kênia celebrate the movement's gains alongside the rebels of Batanga. Jendal wakes up after being treated by Onildo. The doctor says he needs to rest until the wound heals. Mirinho explains to Manoel his plan to save Alika from Jendal and run away with her. Salma asks Ana Maria for news of Omar and his friends. Severino tells Mirinho that he discovered Alika and Tonho's hiding place.

Mirinho has a fit of rage and confesses to Virgínia that he never loved her. Graça advises Virgínia not to confront Mirinho. Pascoal and Binta discover that the rebels have freed Kênia and Dumi. Omar confides in Tonho that he will not flee without attacking Jendal. Binta orders the entire population of Batanga to join her army, and Chinua warns Akin, Dumi, Ladisa, and Kênia. Omar threatens Jendal.

Fortunato keeps watch at the exits of Barro Preto, and Tonho advises Alika and the others to postpone their escape. Onildo tells Sebastião that he is no longer his friend. Jendal questions Teresa about José/Zambi and pressures Caetana to find out Tonho's whereabouts. Tonho proposes an alternative route to leave Barro Preto, and Omar and Alika accept. Mirinho breaks up with Virgínia.

An armed man enters Miguel's store, and an accident ensues. Miguel is overcome with despair upon realizing he has taken a man's life. Miguel is detained. Malungo visits Alika and Niara and announces that he is returning home.

Gamba introduces himself to Dumi and Kênia as an ally of the rebellion. Everyone attends Casemiro's wake.
