In this episode, William Crawley discovers the story of the 19th-century Ulsterman who created a business empire that still thrives today and meets a Rathfriland man who turned his back on journalism to become a producer of world-class wine.
Here Crawley talks about Hannah's shoes - which still operating today. A company formed by a man at the height of the New Zealand gold boom, and a couple who still live on the farmstead their great grandfather first tilled in the late 1800's when he came over from Ulster. Related Videos
The episode follows Thomas Braken, an Irishman who wrote the lyrics to the New Zealand National Anthem and then served as a Liberal MP. Then he looks at John Balance, a County Antrim man who was New Zealand's 16th Prime Minister and head of the first Liberal Government. William Massey - another Irishman who became yet another Kiwi PM.
Series in which William Crawley travels to New Zealand's North and South Islands to explore the country's rich connections with Northern Ireland, and to reveal the remarkable stories of the Ulstermen and women - past and present - who have helped build such a powerful relationship.

This episode sees Crawley learn about the agriculturalist, John McCune. He learns how the great theatre director, Tyrone Guthrie, was instrumental in establishing a prestigious drama festival in Stratford, Ontario. He visits a dancing school that blends traditions from Ireland and Scotland to create a unique dancing style.
In this episode, Crawley visits Amherst Island which has profound connections to the Ards Peninsula. He also learns how Toronto came to be known as "the Belfast of Canada" and discovers the city's connections with the Orange Order. He also pays a visit to the Ulster Accordion Band and meets several people from home. And finally, he learns how Timothy Eaton, a humble businessman from Portglenone, changed Canadian shopping forever.
In this episode, Crawley visits the historical entry point for new arrivals to Canada. he also learns of the remarkable Archibald family and the vital role Limavady man, Reverend William King, played in the liberation of slaves in the nineteenth century.
