1776: American Independence

The final episode examines how the final years of the Revolution shaped Britain and the global balance of power as the United States entered the game of empires.

As men marched off to war, a number of women made their case to be heard and included. We tell the story of Abigail Adams, the feminist wife of John Adams, who wrote a series of radical letters.

We tell the story of one of the first large battles in Manhattan at Kip's Bay as this newly formed army struggled to fight the world's largest empire.

The American War for Independence was two revolutions. It was the revolution of American Patriots against their British overlords. And that of enslaved Black people against their American overlords.

When fighting broke out between Britain and the American colonists, the native people of North America were forced to pick a side.

We begin by profiling three unlikely revolutionaries: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and John Adams.
